Recorded the vocals for the “Black Lake”, today.  Kind of a long song… so I didn’t think I’d have enough time to get the vocals recorded in one session.  But, I guess the vocals are getting a little easier to record… because it all got recorded, somehow.

Recorded the vocals for “Little Secrets”, today.  Trying to work on controlling what little vibrato I may have when singing some of the notes… though in the end, it still feels like trying to catch the wind.

For vocals, I’m finding that warming up is similar to carving something out of wood–you begin by cutting off huge pieces… but by the time you finish the carving, you are only whittling off small pieces.  When I finally get to a point where I’m warmed up and ready to record vocals, rather than trying to force out the notes (or vibrato,) it becomes more like breathing… and less like yelling.

Got the vocals recorded for the fourth song (Picnic Day,) today.  I kind of wish there was another way to say “picnic” in English… that still encompassed what a picnic is all about.  While recording this song, I found it a bit hard to sing the word “picnic” without having weird-sounding noises at the end of the word… ha ha.  I wish “picnic” had an extra vowel at the end, at least.  :/

Got the vocals down for the third song (Willow Green,) today.  Happy about how it turned out… for once. 🙂

Today, I had the opportunity to get the vocals recorded for the second song (Purpose People) in the Dream World series.

Took half of the day… but I think the vocals for the first song (Dream) are finally recorded.

Today, I had the opportunity to get the rhythm track down (I hope,) for the thirteenth song: Like a Shadow.  Probably trying for one or two more songs… and then maybe I’ll try to get some of the vocals down before the end of summer.

Yesterday, I had the opportunity to get the rhythm track down for song number 12 (Mother of Waters).  Almost the end of summer, though. 🙁

Writing about music is really boring.  In the end, I guess these posts about recording Dream World are mostly for my reference….  Today I started recording again… but only got the rhythm track for the eleventh song down (Lonely Girl.)  Almost got another rhythm part done… but I’ll probably just start over on that tomorrow.

Wish I could have kept going at the same pace as before with the Dream World project… but things came up.  I think I’m going to keep going with the guitar I used for the first album… and see how far I can keep using it.

Part of the reason things are taking a while is because I decided to switch out songs 11 and 12 (the first couple of songs on the second album.)  They just weren’t contributing to the overall story that much… and I hope that the replacement songs fix that.

Work is going to start up soon, though… I’m just hoping to get as far as I can with the second album recording… and go from there.  Kind of thinking about releasing the songs one by one… who even has time to listen to one song these days?  haha…
